Only February of 2018 , I already have two TOP ten show for 2018. Powerful acting from the two main leads , Meryl Streep & Tom Hanks . Intense plot and power punchlines from the show . Worth watching .
This is my second 2018 Oscars nominated movie for Best Picture that I have seen, after seeing Dunkirk last year. The Post is a movie that is moved along by the various characters talking on and on. There is little background introductions of the characters, so it helps if you have some knowledge of the historical events in this story. The only action parts are the flashback scenes in the beginning, plus the creative scenes of the 1970s typewriters and newspapers printing machines at work, accompanied by some intense soundtrack. Only Spielberg can pull this off, that publishing breaking news is like going to war, and at one time, the old school press machines even look alien-like. The veteran cast also helps to bring out the story. For movie viewers who prefer a serious theme, this is for you. If you have interest in the journalist and press industry, this is your movie to watch too. Just note that not all cinemas here are showing The Post.
The press is to serve the governed and not the governor - a theme that runs through and through from start to finish. An interesting outlook on how different stakeholders may have their own agenda in pushing for (or withholding) the truth to be made public and the risks one needs to take in plucking up the courage in making the decisions they make. A little heavy at times and a tiny wee lulling at others, the cast and storyline makes up for what could have been a better movie coming from the direction of someone like Spielberg.
