Despite his tarnished reputation after the events of The Dark Knight, in which he took the rap for Dent's crimes, Batman feels compelled to intervene to assist the city and its police force which is struggling to cope with new terrorist leader Bane and his plans to destroy the city. The Dark Knight Rises will also introduce the character of Selina Kyle, a cat burglar whose appearance in Gotham City sets in motion a chain of events that will lead Batman to come out of retirement, but whose motives may or may not be pure.
