A movie on the 1789 French Revolution, told mostly from the point of view of the working-class men and women fighting for change. A young washerwoman, Françoise, and a drifter, Basile, are among those involved in the revolution. The riots they take part in on the streets hold the fate of their king and the birth of a republic.
