Woody Harrelson & Simu Liu Take Their 'Last Breath' in Tense Trailer for Deep Sea Psychological Thriller

Respect the ocean. This is not so much a suggestion as it is a rule of nature, because water always wins. Unless, of course, you're Woody Harrelson or Simu Liu's characters in the trailer for the terrifying-looking new film, Last Breath. In that case, you're betting on yourself outsmarting the power of the oceanic depths. If you're into psychological thrillers, this one looks as gripping as it gets — probably because it's based on a true story.

Slated for release in the United States on February 28, 2025, Last Breath follows colleagues Duncan Allcock (Harrelson) and David Yuasa (Liu) as they race the clock to bring diver Chris Lemons (Finn Cole) back from the bottom of the North Sea. With the odds stacked against their rescue efforts, Allcock and Yuasa must overcome a multitude of obstacles and dangerous situations that extend beyond the watery depths, to find Lemons and bring him back alive. The film also stars Cliff Curtis (likely replacing Djimon Hounsou, who was originally announced as a part of the cast).

Based on the true story of a 2012 diving accident captured in the documentary of the same name, both iterations of Last Breath were directed by Alex Parkinson (Richard La Costa also co-directed the documentary), and tell the gripping tale of when diver Chris Lemons (played by Finn Cole) had his umbilical cable severed, becoming untethered from the boat and trapped over 300 feet under the sea, without any heat or light, and only 5 minutes worth of breathing gas in his backup tank. Oh, and it's going to take the rescue team at least 30 minutes to get to him.

This makes saturation diving a very dangerous occupation with a litany of safety challenges one must account for when taking on the work. Most common career tracks include underwater construction, oil and gas pipeline maintenance and installation, as well as salvage expeditions.
