We don't typically discourage our readers from seeing a movie, but we'll make an exception just this once.
And that's because Hereditary, the upcoming indie supernatural horror, is being touted as the most frightening movie in years and totally unsuitable for younger audiences.
So how old do you have to be in order to see it? Probably the age of NEVER!
Seriously though, horror buffs are already calling it "this generation's The Exorcist", which is by no means a comparison you'll want to ignore.
If you think you're brave enough, here's a no-spoiler round-up of early reactions that will make you think twice (or more excited) about seeing it in the cinema:
Discerning horror fans must check out 'Hereditary', the debut from Ari Aster. A beautifully shot & performed supernatural thriller that builds to some shocking sequences. I actually said 'Jesus Christ' aloud at one shot. Toni Collette is amazing, but we knew that already. Go see. pic.twitter.com/ULyt1ftLse

DO NOT MISS @HereditaryMovie the terrifying masterful debut from @AriAster. Scariest movie since Paranormal Activity. Don’t watch trailers, just see it and get scarred. It’s the real deal. pic.twitter.com/UqcjpjTry0

If you’re wondering whether or not you should see it, you probably shouldn’t see it.
But if you’re a horror fan and thought the trailer was awesome, please go see it in theaters.
Most intense movie I’ve seen in a while. Wrenching.
I saw Hereditary tonight and it’s still haunting me, two hours later. Truly a movie that sticks with you in a very disturbing way. I love films that make you think even after they end

I saw @HereditaryMovie Some would say I screamed at one point. I did not! I was yelling out in a I-am-here-to-protect-you-all, yelp. My battle cry has tears.

Thoroughly enjoyed #Hereditary, especially the audience moaning “noooooooo!” when they knew horrifying things were about to happen-well done by @ariaster and the wonderful cast-I’ve been an admirer of #ToniCollette for many, many years as you can probably guess! @A24 @bejohnce

Can a horror movie actually be too scary?
A24, the studio distributing Hereditary, actually strapped a heart-rate tracker on 20 random moviegoers during the movie and the results do not lie... yes it can!
To put this into perspective, the average adult resting heart rate should be somewhere between 60 - 100 beats a minute. This means that watching Hereditary more than doubled the normal BPM!
If you love horror movies, Hereditary sure seems like it has the makings of a must-see classic. But if you're the type that squirms easily, heed our warning, it is definitely not for the faint-hearted.
