50 years ago, one movie changed all movies forever.
And now, for the first time ever, established fans and the new generation of moviegoers will have the opportunity to see 2001: A Space Odyssey on the biggest screen that it was made for.
Continuing the 50th anniversary celebration of Stanley Kubrick's magnum opus, Warner Bros. Singapore is bringing the sci-fi masterpiece exclusively to Shaw Theatres Lido IMAX® for one week only from 27 September - 3 October 2018, making Singapore the only country in Southeast Asia to showcase the movie in the IMAX format.
Widely considered one of the greatest films of the 20th century and inspiring today's cinematic auteurs such as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Ridley Scott and Christopher Nolan, 2001: A Space Odyssey was originally released on 4 April 1968, igniting the imaginations of both critics and audiences.
2001: A Space Odyssey is Stanley Kubrick’s dazzling Academy Award© winning compelling science fiction drama of man vs. machine. A stunning meld of music & motion based on Clarke’s short story The Sentinel. At the dawn of Mankind, a tribe of ape-like beings are visited on Earth by a large black monolith. Thousands of years later, in the year 2001, scientist Dr Heywood Floyd (William Sylvester) discovers a similar black monolith on the moon, which then emits a signal aimed at the planet Jupiter. A year later, astronauts David Bowman (Keir Dullea) and Frank Poole (Gary Lockwood) are en route to Jupiter to investigate the signal's destination and purpose. However, their mission comes under threat when the ship computer, HAL (voiced by Douglas Rain), seemingly develops a malfunction.
