A lovely story of love lost, self-redemption and music, set amidst the summer-warmed city of New York. Gretta (Kira Knightly) has lived the simple life of her dreams, writing songs with her boyfriend Dave (played by Adam Levine). Yet when their music leads the pair to New York, it is Dave who signs with a major recording label and becomes enamoured with living the fast life of a rock star. Gretta finds herself unceremoniously dumped and alone, until she performs her latest lovelorn ballad at a pub where her performance enthralls Dan (Mark Ruffalo), a former recording executive in the midst of alcohol-fueled self-destruction. Taking the opportunity to begin again, Gretta and Dan embark on a musical partnership that will change both their lives.
