Best get working on those crane kicks – there’s a new Karate Kid in town. After five movies, an animated series, and Netflix spin-off Cobra Kai, the franchise is returning to the big screen with Karate Kid: Legends, the first trailer for which just dropped_._ There are more senseis than you can shake a stick at, with the teaser uniting multiple generations of martial arts masters, including the titular kid from the original trilogy, and star of Cobra Kai, Ralph Macchio, and the one and only Jackie Chan, who played Mr. Han in the 2010 film, opposite Jaden Smith. The pair come together to mentor youngster Li, played by newcomer Ben Wang.
Looks like there’s all the action, heart, and damn cool kung fu that we’ve come to expect from a Karate Kid movie in store from this one. Here’s the official synopsis: “In Karate Kid: Legends, after a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother. Li struggles to let go of his past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates, and although he doesn’t want to fight, trouble seems to find him everywhere. When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition – but his skills alone aren’t enough. Li’s kung fu teacher Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) for help, and Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.” We’ll definitely be waxing our way on over to the movieplex to see this one…
Karate Kid: Legends arrives in UK cinemas on 30 May 2025.
